Outpost 44 Official Pinewood Derby Rules

CAR KIT: A new Pinewood Derby Car must be made for this years race. No previous years cars will be allowed to race. All cars must be made from a kit distributed by Royal Rangers Outpost 44 ONLY. Conformity will insure a fair sportsman like race.

WIDTH: Car cannot be more than 2-3/4 inches wide.

LENGTH: Car cannot be more than 7 inches long.

WEIGHT: Finished car cannot weight more than 5 ounces. The weight shown on the official race scale is final. All car parts and materials must be firmly attached. Do not use mercury to add weight because it is not a safe substance.

WHEEL PLACEMENT: The car body must be at least 1- 3/4 inches wide at the axles. It must clear the ground by at least 3/8 of an inch. If desired, you may change the wheelbase ( distance between front and rear Axles). The four wheels, two on each side of the car, must be placed such that the car will straddle the lane guide and maintain all four wheels in contact with the surface of the track.

WHEELS AND AXLES: You can polish the axles. You may lightly sand the wheels to remove the molding seam on the tread. No other wheel changes are allowed. The use of bearings, springs, washers, or bushings are not allowed.

DETAILS: Details such as steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, interior details are allowed. The finished car with details must meet the maximum length, width, and weight rules. Cars with wet paint will not be accepted. Cars must free-wheel with no stored energy or movable weights. There is no designated front or back to the supplied body, either end may be used as the front.

LUBRICATION: Use dry powdered graphite ONLY. The use of any other lubricant, especially oils and silicone sprays may foul the track.

INSPECTION: Each car must pass inspection and be registered before it is allowed to compete. Boys must be present on race day to have their cars participate in the Royal Ranger Pinewood Derby.
